Article II. PROTECTION DURING BUILDING PROJECTS |
§ 30-23. Fences.
(a)
Whenever construction, alteration, demolition, cleaning, the moving of heavy objects or other work that is to be done on or next to the exterior of a building or structure adjacent to sidewalk or street lines, and the nature of such work requires the use of heavy tools, scaffolds, masonry or other heavy material and such work is more than ten feet but less than 15 feet above street level, an eight foot high fence shall be erected on the sidewalk or in public space, leaving at least four feet of clear space to the curb for pedestrian use.
(b)
Such fence shall be electrically lighted and returned to the building line at each end.
(c)
Sidewalk or public space so enclosed may be used for the storage of materials and equipment.
(d)
Gates or doors may be provided in such fences for access to the street.
