§ 30-24. Covered sidewalk sheds.

  • (a)

    Whenever construction, alteration, demolition, cleaning, the moving of heavy objects or other work that is to be done on or next to a building or structure is to be done 15 feet or more above street level, and the nature of such work requires the use of heavy tools, scaffolds, masonry or other heavy material, a covered sidewalk shed shall be provided on the outer edge of the sidewalk or public space.

    (b)

    Such shed shall be electrically lighted and provide minimum inside clearance four feet in width and 8.5 feet in height.

    (c)

    One-inch roof sheathing of five-eighths inch plywood shall be provided where roof supports do not exceed two feet on center and two-inch sheathing shall be provided when such supports exceed two feet.

    (d)

    Waterproof roofing shall be applied on the roof deck.

    (e)

    Details of construction shall be as approved by the town manager and may be determined by him to provide adequate safety to persons therein as may be dictated by the nature of the work.

    (f)

    A fence return shall be built to the building line at each end and the space enclosed therein may be used for storage of materials and equipment.
