§ 30-26. Sidewalks or streets closed to pedestrians; guards.

Latest version.
  • (a)

Whenever it is the opinion of the town manager and the police department that the construction, demolition, alteration, cleaning, the moving of heavy objects or other work on or next to a building or structure would, notwithstanding the protections described in this article, endanger persons or property on sidewalks or streets adjacent to such building operation, or that such work cannot be reasonably accomplished under the protectives described in this article, the town manager may close such portion of the street or sidewalk to pedestrian traffic during such building operation.

    (b)

If such portion of the street or sidewalk is closed to pedestrian traffic, an electrically lighted fence shall be erected in a place and manner as directed by the town manager, and appropriate signs directing pedestrians across the street shall be provided and maintained by the owner or person causing or doing such work subject to the approval of the town manager.

    (c)

Where deemed necessary by the town manager, the owner or contractor shall employ guards or officers to direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic at such times and during such operations as may be required by the town manager.
